Breathing New Life provides small emergency grants to patients referred by the M Health Fairview UMMC lung-transplant social workers. Patients’ transplant-related expenses often include, but are not limited to:

• Medication
• Temporary housing
• Utilities
• Insurance
• Relocation costs
• Transportation

Costs associated with lung transplantation can financially threaten even those of significant means.

The Impact of Your Gifts

BNL_OurImpact-Gifts_Breathe

The financial costs associated with lung transplantation can be exorbitant. Your gifts to Breathing New Life allow us to provide limited financial support for the transplant patients and their immediate families when other services and resources have been exhausted.

Some of our transplant ” friends” are unable to work post-transplant, resulting in the need to go on COBRA or other costly healthcare plan. Others are unable to pay the copays for their essential medications. Some patients need to relocate to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area for an extended period either before and/or after their transplant. Financial reserves can be depleted quickly. Lung transplantation saves lives, but there are many costs and situations that can threaten even those with significant means.

Our organization is comprised entirely of volunteers. Over 90% of our expenses are spent on direct financial assistance to help with insurance co-pays, prescriptions, housing, transportation, and other transplant-related expenses.

Our impact, made possible by your gifts, can best be summarized by this testimonial from a lung-transplant patient:

“I truly don’t know what we would have done without the grant from Breathing New Life. Our social worker told us about the program. The transplant process is difficult and expensive! This grant covered an entire month of rent for an apartment we stayed at after transplant! In addition, we received a parking pass for a month at the clinic. Because of the generosity of Breathing New Life, our minds were eased by not having to worry about how we were going to pay for these things, which allowed us to focus more on healing and recovery.”
